Redesign an online learning app

How might we motivate children to learn subjects like Math, Science, Social Science and Language?

Pented is an online learning app created to reach students from every the remote areas of Gujarat. The app provides gamified learning experiences with different engagement touchpoints such as live lectures, important question videos, doubt solution, digital materials, weekly test series and model question papers.

The Problem Statement

Distance learning due to pandemic has really affected the motivation of kids to learn in school – having to do it at home with so many distractions, having to adjust from meeting in person then online, zoom fatigue, etc.


Students nowadays are not motivated enough to learn when the materials are difficult to understand, static and boring.


Motivation to learn is important because it drives individuals to actively seek out and engage with new information and experiences. It’s also important to stimulate them with engaging, interactive experiences as this adds to their excitement to learn.



The Approaches

Research on motivation of kids to learn.


Some of the factors that can motivate children to learn are:


1.A sense of curiosity and interest in the subject matter

2.Positive reinforcement and rewards

3.Belief that learning will lead to future success.

4.Presence of positive role models or mentors

5.Self-directed learning

6.Relevance to student's interest


Take elements from media and games that are catching the attention of kids nowadays and design gamified and interactive learning experiences

The Target Audience

The app is for Class 6 to Class 10 kids from Gujarat who are enrolled/not enrolled in the schoolyear.


I developed three personas that capture the different users of the app.


The New Pented App

The New Pented App is designed with interactive learning experiences gamified to motivate them to learn and build learning habits.


This hyper-localized app aims to make learning fun and engaging for children with:


  • Adventure-Based Learning Experiences
  • Simple and guided through quests and chapters following the school curriculum
  • Game Elements such as streak, diamond points, milestones, and real-world rewards
  • Learn, train solo or with friends, and solve questions aligned to standard blue-print of GSEB
  • Group or one-on-one Sessions with Pented wizards who are subject experts
  • Learning materials in a Q&A and, written or video format
